Frequently Asked Questions
"How many women did Tiger Woods actually hook up with?"
"Is Freaknik really coming back to Atlanta?"
"How many fights will the Jersey Shore cast get into next season?"
Well, we may not know the answers to those questions, but we can answer your questions about this year's Bar Golf tournament.
See below...
Q: What is Bar Golf?
A: Bar Golf is a tradition begun 8 years ago by a few friends with tacky golf clothes, and free time to spend on a Saturday in the Virginia Highlands. It evolved into a themed pub crawl, supported by golfers and Highland bar managers alike. Bar Golf is comprised of nine different "holes" or bars the tournament visits. Each location has a line up of specialty drinks designed to test each golfer's desire to score well on the given hole. Each drink's degree of difficulty determines his or her score on the hole (Eagle, Birdie, Par, or Bogey). Of course, what golf tournament wouldn't provide the ability for each golfer to redeem/penalize themselves through various "Scoring Adjustments" (The Golddigger, The Yearbook, Breaking the Seal, etc).
Q: What's new for this year's tournament?
A: Here's what's new:
-Greens fee for this year's tournament is $5. Greens fee includes: Official 2011 Highland Cup scorecard, player badge, and admission to the "10th Hole" After Party at Neighbors.
-Proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and specifically your Bar Golf Chairman's campaign for LLS Man of the Year. To learn more about the LLS Man & Woman of the Year event, see the Charity page or visit www.mwoy.org/ga
Q: What are the "greens fees"?
A: $5 (Required): Greens fee to enter the tournament and wristband entry into Neighbor's after-party
$15 (Optional): Official 2011 Atlanta Bar Golf tournament tshirt.
$20 (Recommended): Highland Cup Combo Package: Be a good sport. Buy both the wristband and tshirt. All proceeds go to LLS.
Q: Do I need to bring my own scorecard?
A: No. An Official 2011 Highland Cup scorecard will be provided to you on the day of the tournament. The official scorecard lists each bar and drink/scoring possibilities for your ready reference. In addition, Atlanta Bar Golf commemorative T-shirts are available with a scorecard print on the back. The T-shirt can double as your official scorecard. Just bring a Sharpie and you can write in your score directly on it. The T-shirt can also serve as a good place for autographs, drunk girls' phone numbers, directions to your home - so that the cab driver can get you home safely later that night, sponsorships/advertisements, etc.
Q: Do I have to dress up in golf attire?
A: It is the only way to play. The more ridiculous, the better. Argyle is preferred. If anyone dresses up as John Daly, blond mullet and all, you get a free Oyster Shooter at Fontaine's.
Q: Do I have to drink everything on the scorecard?
A: Dear God No. You will die. Choose whether you want to Eagle, Birdie, Par, or Bogey each hole.
Q: Do I have to drink at all?
A: No. This is a social event and everyone is showing up to have a good time. But if you don't drink, you have just volunteered to be the official designated driver of Atlanta Bar Golf 2011.
